Port veterans interested in learning to surf have the opportunity to do so in early 2021.
The Association of Veteran Surfers, Nelson Bay RSL Sub-Branch and Port Stephens Surf School collaborated with Veteran Sport Australia in November to deliver the first event at One Mile with great success.
Veterans and their families converged on One Mile Beach to learn how to surf and form new relationships within the veteran community, Veteran Sport Australia's veteran engagement specialist Rachel Kerrigan said
"It's great to see local community organisations coming together to realise the vision of establishing a veteran community based around surfing, family and mateship. It is becoming a reality in the Hunter region," she said.
"I encourage any veteran and members of their families to come along to meet like-minded people and learn a new skill to keep fit and healthy."
Veteran Sport Australia connects veterans and their families from around the country with sporting opportunities and supports ongoing involvement.
The Association of Veteran Surfers Hunter Central Coast is growing, and becoming a staple in the Hunter surfing community.
