Fourteen local businesses have collectively contributed $34,000 to the 2021 scholarship pool creating 17 scholarship opportunities, each worth $2000, for students starting TAFE or university this year.
This year's sponsors include Ampcontrol, Destination Port Stephens, Hunter Land, Hunter Readymixed Concrete, McDonald Jones Homes, MOJO Homes, Newcastle Airport, Raymond Terrace Bowling Club, Salamander Bay Recycling (2), Soldiers Point Bowling Club, SUEZ Resource Recovery Centre, The Wests Group (2), Tomago Aluminium and Weathertex (2).
Scholarships are designed to help recipients pay for study costs such as textbooks, a laptop or student accommodation.
"If you're a resident of Port Stephens and you're thinking of starting university or TAFE next year, I'd encourage you to apply for a scholarship and give yourself a head start in your academic career," Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer said.
In the past 11 years that the scholarship program has been running, a total of $250,000 has helped about 130 students with their studies.
Applications are open until midnight on Friday, January 15.
