The fundraising event will take place on Sunday, March 7, at the Anna Bay Tavern from 12 midday, and everyone is welcome to join in the fun and help raise funds for a worthwhile cause.
The first race starts at 1pm and the last race is scheduled for 5pm. In addition to the racing, there will be lucky dips, auctions and prizes and children are welcome.
Organiser Darren James, from Shoal Bay, said that all money raised will go to the Country Hope charity, which looks after kids with cancer and other illnesses and helps their families cope in times of need.
"I will again be entering the Riverina Redneck Rally 2021, travelling around NSW for five days starting from March 15, heading off from Coolaman and finishing in Jerilderee," Darren said.
"This in fact is my third rally and I am looking forward to helping out those families that are out doing it tough and who have battled through drought, bushfires and the pandemic, not to mention other illnesses such as cancer.
"We organise the pig races as a means of raising money before we head off on the rally. So far from the previous two years we have raised $14,000 from the races at Anna Bay, and this year we are hoping to break the $20,000 mark, which will put us among the top fundraisers."
The redneck rally has raised more than $1.2 million since it started. Darren said that Country Hope received no government funding.
"My first rally in 2019 was a great experience driving the 1996 Toyota Camry across dirt roads in three different states. We drove a total of 4700km over five days, starting in Balranald and finishing in Hay."
Darren said he would never have been able to achieve the massive total without the support of the Port Stephens community and the generous people who attend the pig race day at Anna Bay.
Country Hope is dedicated to developing support programs and services, in response to the needs of country families, recognising that childhood cancer and other chronic life threatening illnesses place incredible stress on the family. They develop support programs for needs of the entire family.
