Nelson Bay Golf Club has been closed due to water damage.
"The clubhouse will re-open tomorrow, including the Bluewater Grill restaurant. However, with more severe weather forecast, the golf course will remain closed. We will provide regular updates on the golf course," the club stated on its Facebook page.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water.
- Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
- If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
- Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks.
- After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides.
- Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires.
- For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
1pm Thursday:
A flood warning from the Bureau of Meteorology and NSW State Emergency Service has been issued for the Port's rivers.
Thursday's heavy rainfall has the potential to cause minor to moderate flooding along the Mid North Coast from Thursday and is expected to spread south towards the Hunter during Friday and Saturday.
The bureau said the Lower Hunter River faced possible minor-to-moderate flooding, while the Myall, Paterson and Williams rivers faced potential minor flooding and Karuah River local flooding.

EARLIER Thursday:
A warning has been issued for possible flash flooding in the region as heavy rainfall is predicted to lash the Hunter from Thursday and through to the weekend.
The NSW State Emergency Service issued the warning due to forecast rainfall of 50 to 100mm across the Hunter, Central Coast and Mid North Coast with isolated heavy falls up to 200mm possible.
In Port Stephens, the NSW Bureau of Meteorology has forecast daily rain falls of up to 45mm from Thursday to Saturday. Heavier rainfall is predicted for Nelson Bay on Friday, which is forecast to receive between 70 and 120mm of rain.
NSW SES Northern Zone Chief Superintendent Steve Patterson urged residents and motorists to be prepared.
"Rainfall over the last few weeks in the Mid North Coast, Central Coast and Hunter area has contributed to a number of soaked catchments," he said. "This means water runoff and flash flooding is more likely in these areas.
"Bring in or secure any outdoor items in the yard or on the balcony, check your gutters are clear and your roof is in good condition, trim any overhanging branches and take care when travelling in severe weather conditions. If you come across a flooded road please make the safe decision. Turn around, it's just not worth the risk."
Hunter Weather said the rain was a result of two low pressure troughs developing while a high pressure system was meandering east.
"This is going to help keep the troughs in place, and with the loaded moisture in the atmosphere, this will all combine to produce significant rainfall."
