Hunter Horse Haven founder Debbie Barber issued a 'SOS' on the not-for-profit rescue group's Facebook page on Saturday calling for emergency donations to buy hay and repair damaged fences at the sanctuary, plus towels and winter horse rugs.
"It is an emergency. We need your urgent help to get through the current flooding situation, which is getting worse by the hour," Ms Barber said.
The paddocks of the Anna Bay-based horse sanctuary have been flooded and fences destroyed.
Ms Barber said the rescued horses currently residing at the property have been moved to higher ground but with the water level continuing to rise, staff are "still worried for their safety".
"The water is so high. I have not slept at all last night worrying about our rescue and our precious horses. Our fences are ruined and to be honest I'm just praying the sanctuary is not too badly damaged," the 40-year animal rescue veteran said on Saturday.
"Hour by hour it is getting worse and I'm fearing for our rescue going forward. It is our time of need. It's our emergency."
Ms Barber said Hunter Horse Haven needed "at least" $15,000 to assist repair efforts and buy additional hay and bulk feed.
"This is our time of absolute need. I'm crying out for your help," she said.
On Sunday, more than $7000 of the $15,000 goal had been raised. Click here to donate through the Hunter Horse Haven website.
The sanctuary is also seeking retail businesses willing to be a drop off point for donations of towels and winter horse rugs to get in touch. Contact Sally Walker via text message: 0458 522 317.
Hunter Horse Haven, established in 2019, is a registered not-for-profit charity dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of horses.
