VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Tomaree Breast Cancer Support Group's Christine Walton with a brochure calling for new committee members.

Tomaree Breast Cancer Support Group is on the look-out for new committee members to ensure the future of the volunteer organisation.

Christine Walton, the group's publicity officer, said that the group was struggling to find volunteers willing to devout a few hours a month and needed new faces "otherwise we will fold after 20 years of existence".

"We urgently require volunteers to fill the void on the committee. Currently we are without a vice-president while other committee members are looking to step down in the near future," she said.

"The positions required just a few hours work per month. We have enough drivers and sub-committee members who look after the fundraising, but we are hoping to get some new faces to help with the decision making."

The local support group offers assistance to residents on the Tomaree peninsula who have breast cancer.

They provide complimentary support with transport to and from cancer-related medical appointments, telephone and face-to-face support and other duties such as house cleaning, lawn mowing and child mining.

Also provided are items such as wigs, scarves hand-knitted lightweight cotton prosthesis and underarm cushion packs.

Ms Walton said that meetings were conducted once a month and that volunteers could nominate how they wished to participate as a member.

"We have get togethers for those we have assisted to meet together in a happy environment, sharing experiences with our volunteer drivers and others on their breast cancer journey," she said.

"We have a committed fundraising team who are very busy organising the golf day to be held later this month, and our other major event is the 'In The Pink' Breakfast to be held in October."

Anyone wanting more information on how to become a committee member can contact Ms Walton on 0409 114 020 or email cwal1234@hotmail.com.
