After three rounds the Hawks' under-19 team remain undefeated, however they will have a fight on their hands to keep those wins coming this weekend.
The club, a merger between the Nelson Bay Sharks and Newcastle Hawks, are away on Saturday to play the Macquarie Scorpions at Peacock Field in what will be a tough road trip.
The Hawks reserve grade team, which has two wins and a draw under its belt, dominated the first half of their game against the Lakes United Seagulls at Tomaree on Saturday.
The side raced to a 20-0 lead at halftime with flying winger Dylan Petith scoring two tries.
Lakes, with a glut of possession in the second half, reduced the lead to 20-16.
With the Seagulls charging late, it was some rock solid defence from the Hawks to turn the tide to remain undefeated 20-16.
The Hawks' under-19 team were once again were impressive on the field.
Coach Andrew Chapman has the group playing as a team despite limited preparation.
They outclassed Lakes 32-4.
The Hawks forwards hunted as a pack, lead by captain Jake Wozniak.
The slick backline clicked into gear to play their part.
Cody Ross scored three tries and Jarrod Dixon two four-pointers.
Some of the under-19s backed up their efforts by bulking up the reserve grade team roster in their win.
The Hawks' third grade team were down on troops and the battle harden Kurri Bulldogs showed their experience, running out 32-16 winners.
Andrew Curry and Darryle Sharply had good games for the Hawks.
The Hawks will play away until round nine when they will return to Tomaree No. 1 Sportground to face Western Suburbs on Sunday, May 23.
The regular season will end on the weekend of August 7-8 - round 19 - before elimination and qualifying finals kick off.
Round 19 is a bye weekend for the Hawks.
