The $200,000 project aims to stabilise the erosion currently along the coastline with a revetment wall and provide a safer connection between the boat ramp, car park and marina.

"We must stabilise this area to ensure the safety of our community which is paramount to Port Stephens Council," mayor Ryan Palmer said.

"The works will also ensure we protect our unique landscape and significant Aboriginal Place to conserve its cultural significance.

"The upgrades will also improve accessibility for the local community and visitors to the area around the headland."

The project has been funded through the council's PS2020 projects and the Australian Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Fund.

The works will be undertaken by a specialised sub-contractor experienced in working in the sensitive coastal environment and are expected to be complete by early June.

Later in the year, $280,000 will be spent to upgrade nearby Spencer Park.

The playground and amenities will be replaced and new park furniture and pathways installed.

The project is being funded by Port Stephens Council and the NSW Government Stronger Country Communities Fund.
