The meeting was productive with the Fingal Haven Craft Group established and Nell Frederiksen named the president, Lyn Fairless the secretary and Beryl Meadows the treasurer.
On April 27, 2021, 22 people - 17 of which were craft group members - turned out to Nelson Bay Golf Club for a 25th anniversary celebration luncheon hosted by village owners Harbourside Haven.
The group was established to raise funds to assist with recreational facilities and amenities for Fingal Haven Village, undertake and promote benevolent assistance Harbourside residents and to engage in activities to the benefit and welfare of the said residents.
During the years, the group has made significant donations to Harbourside Haven, assisted in furnishing and equipping the village hall and purchased sewing equipment for use by the group. Assistance has continued to be provided to the hostel and nursing home at Harbourside Haven but a majority of the support has been directed towards Bill King Aged Care Facility in purchasing a variety of medical and entertainment equipment for the residents, plus establishing a sensory garden.
Currently, the group is helping to fund the refurbishment of the palliative care room at Bill King.
"Twenty-five years is a remarkable achievement for a volunteer craft group to continue to exist," was stated at the anniversary luncheon. "There have been many and varied activities some of which have inevitably changed with the passing of time. Our annual fair, bi-annual fashion parades, community stalls and lamington drives are now important events in our calendar year."
