Family members raised the alarm after Phillip Carter, 47, was last seen at 10.30am on Sunday.
He is known to frequent the Gosford and Brandy Hill areas.
Police said he may also have been seen in Newcastle.
Mr Carter is described as of caucasian appearance, standing between 170-175cm tall with a medium to large build, medium complexion, short grey hair and brown eyes.
Anyone who sees Mr Carter is urged to call Raymond Terace police station on 4983 7599 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
