Police and fire officials are investigating the cause of a fierce fire which burnt out half a hectare of bushland adjoining Barry Park in Fingal Bay on Monday night.

Terry Burns, district officer Lower Rural Fire Service, said that firefighters from three RFS units took nearly four hours to control the blaze, which was fanned by blustery 15-20-kilometre-per-hour winds from the north west.
"The Fingal Bay RFS unit was first to respond to a call made at 7pm on Monday, and was soon joined by firefighters from both Soldiers Point and Anna Bay," Mr Burns said.
"Around 20 firefighters attended, using the trail alongside Barry Park to access the burning bush. Once the main blaze was under control, firefighters were then able to undertake some backburning to stop the fire from spreading."
He said that the blaze was fully under control by 11pm. "The Fingal Bay brigade has been back patrolling the area today, [Tuesday]."
Mr Burns said that the cause of the blaze was under investigation. "We take these cases very seriously and if anyone knows or saw anything suspicious on the night they should contact the Police Assistance Line."
The Police Assistance Line (131 444) operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and allows the person to report crime over the phone.
