Recycle centre general manager Gerard McClafferty said that the service, which proved to be highly successful during last year's initial coronavirus lockdown, would continue while the current lockdown was in place - until at least September 10.
He said that all other services provided by Salamander Bay Recycling would remain closed to the public until further notice.
"Our personnel will not be gaining access to your property, or interacting with anyone whilst they are there; so we ask that you place your scrap metal at the front of your premises, prior to making your booking," Mr McClafferty said.
"This will ensure that when we visit, social distancing protocols are maintained as per the current lockdown requirements.
"Scrap metals can include most things with metal in it; just ask our friendly staff when you call, if you have a query."
He said that the scrap metal collection service was permissible via the Waste Management Industry essential service exemption order, which was applied under the jurisdiction of the NSW Environmental Protection Agency.
Salamander Bay Recycling, an independent, not-for-profit organisation run by the community, for the community, continues to make huge strides in the fight to recycle material that would otherwise end up as landfill and manage waste while turning over a profitable business.
The organisation also assists a large number of persons out-of-work or in need of re-training or vocational or personal development by providing skill-orientated courses, learning environments and support facilities. They also make donations for charitable causes and seek out and identify social needs in the community.
To book a scrap metal pickup service, call the office on 4984 6244 between 9am and 3pm, Monday to Friday.
