Northern Hawks Rugby League Club's reserve grade side have been crowned minor premiers of the cancelled Newcastle Rugby League season while its under-19 side finished as semi finalists - a great effort in the combined club's inaugural season.

The Hawks have set their goals for next year and are making giant steps forward with the club to field a first grade team, to be coached by former NRL player Brad Tighe.
The reserve grade squad will have Newcastle representative Jade Porter as their player-coach while under-19s be coached by Nathan Bolton, a player with links to the Northern Blues and Raymond Terrace clubs in addition to a stellar first grade career.
The high performance director will be Dave Parsons who has done a mighty job with the Cessnock Goannas in recent seasons.
Expressions of interest are being sought for coaching and support staff for a ladies tackle team which the Hawks hope to field in 2022.
The Hawks' executive will be lead by president Sean Gordon, vice presidents Ray Smith and Scott Dews and secretary Lehetta Porter. Andrew Chapman has relinquish coaching the U19 team to take on a vital role as overall manager and treasurer.
The Hawks will base their training at Raymond Terrace but their home games will still be played at Tomaree sports ground.
RAYMOND Terrace District Cricket Club is gearing up for a busy season with the club expecting an increase in playing numbers when lockdown ends.
The club is one of the oldest in the region, founded in 1882, and boasts great facilities including four turf wickets, turf and synthetic practice wickets and air conditioned clubhouse.
Early registrations are important so they can gauge how many teams and grades the Lions can field across the senior and junior ranks. For the parents and carers, commit those Active Kids vouchers and help with the club's season planning.

NELSON Bay Cricket Club have their season in a holding pattern with a likely commencement date on Saturday, November 6 - a month behind schedule and subject to COVID rules.
The Makos have a large junior base and are using an interesting way to keep everyone up to date. Head coach Trent Colley is posting video lessons on batting, bowling and skill sessions via the club's Facebook page.
The club will keep taking registrations with the seniors planning to have a first division and graded teams in the Suburban Districts cricket competition. The junior club takes Active Kids vouchers as part of their registration package. Further information can be found through the club's website.
