In response to the issue, the Australian Sports Foundation (ASF) last week announced the latest round of the Active Kids Grants program, giving community sporting clubs the opportunity to apply for vital funding for junior members aged under 20.
This round of Active Kids grants, generously supported by the Dickinson Foundation, have been established with the aim of providing every child with the active childhood they deserve, by supplying them with the equipment and uniforms they need to participate in sporting activities.
"The foundation is proud to be partnering with the ASF to be able to provide equipment, kit and uniforms to young sportspeople around the nation to help them to participate in sport and all the benefits that brings. We encourage other philanthropic foundations and funds to join us in partnering with the Australian Sports Foundation. By doing so, your investment is tax deductible and together we can improve the physical and mental wellbeing of our kids, their families and the broader community" said David Dickinson, founder and director.
ASF CEO Patrick Walker said that the events of the past two years have had a devastating impact on community sporting clubs.
"Every child deserves to have an active childhood but to make that a reality, we need to give clubs the means to start rebuilding their resources. We're committed to helping young Australians get back to playing their sport," he said.
"The ASF has a variety of different grants and funding options available to ensure funds reach those who need them most and we are happy to discuss how we can help our benefactors meet their goals."
The Active Kids Grants will help eligible clubs acquire equipment, kit and uniforms to be able to remove a potential barrier to non-participation by providing the essentials for junior club members to get out there and play sport. Open until 5pm on Monday, January 24, suggested grant values are up to $10,000 for each club.
