In response to questions about the impact of the Pacific Highway extension project on local businesses and traffic, a Transport for NSW spokesperson said this week that three businesses in Heatherbrae would be required to relocate or close.
The Examiner can reveal that Sandy's Seafood at Motto Farm, which has been operating for 70 years, is one of those business that will shut its doors.
"Transport has already consulted, and will continue to consult, with affected businesses and stakeholders," the spokesperson told the Examiner.
"Transport is finalising its response to a submissions report and will respond to the issues raised in the submissions received during exhibition of the EIS.
"The report will be available for the public to view later this year."
The spokesperson said that on current planning, the proposal included an expected opening date to traffic in 2028.
"Timing of construction is dependent on planning approval."
The spokesperson said that minor disruptions to traffic using the New England and Pacific highways was also anticipated during construction of the M1 extension to Raymond Terrace project.
"A Construction Traffic and Transport Management Plan is to be prepared prior to major work starting and will outline measures to manage traffic during construction," the spokesperson added.
"Transport for NSW will also ensure that changes to traffic conditions are communicated in advance to all road users and stakeholders.
"Once complete, the project will save motorists between seven and nine minutes travel time during peak periods, and significantly reduce traffic volumes on the existing road network."
The M1 extension was also expected to boost the regional economy and improve connectivity, road transport efficiency and safety for local and interstate motorists.
"The M1 Pacific Motorway extension would bypass the congestion and merge points along this corridor and is predicted to reduce traffic volumes across the existing network."
