RUGBY league will get under way this week, with the club's first training run on Thursday, January 30, at Myall Park Oval, Hawks Nest, from 6pm.
The Tea Gardens Hawks have a number of new players this season, under the guidance of Brooke Roach, who will coach the side for the sixth season.
Club captain Trent Murphy is expecting bigger things from the side this year, with a blend of youth and experience on the field. Training will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with trial games in early March and competition to start on Saturday, March 29.
The Myall River Juniors will field five teams this season. Peter Nolan will coach the six-year-olds. Nic Lagudi keeps the nine-year-olds, and Carl Williams will run the 10s.
The mini-mod league's 2014 registration day is on Tuesday, February 18, from 5pm at Myall Park Oval. Official training starts on Tuesday, March 4, at 5pm.
A 13 years and under team has been nominated, despite numbers being low at last year's expression of interest day. Coach Craig O'Neil is confident of forming a team. Official training will start on Tuesday, February 18, in conjunction with the registration day.
The 16-year side will continue on the back of grand final appearances in their two previous age divisions. Brooke Roach will coach the side. The team will field a core of last year's players, with new recruits expected to turn out. They will begin training with the seniors on Thursday, January 30.
Trials for the Myall River juniors are being organised. Their competition starts on Saturday, March 29.
People interested in supporting the club should phone 0429 846 747, email nreynolds.2@bigpond.com, or go to Facebook Hawks Tea Gardens.
Trainers, managers and support staff are needed to assist.
The club will fund any costs involved in accreditations.
A referee's course is also available to anyone interested in obtaining their certificate. There is the possibility of officiating local games in the mini-mod league, or running the line in the international rule games in junior and senior leagues.
Officials are paid for any fixtures they undertake. The clubs will also support the cost of these courses.
Finally, the 2014 tipping competition will get under way on Thursday, March 6. Books will be available from the Tea Gardens Hotel or Myall Quays Newsagency from next week.
