"We just couldn't afford those sorts of cars back in England," he explained.
He kept his love for such vehicles alive by working in the Abingdon factory repairing MGs before working as a mechanic for the BMC racing team.
When he came to Australia in the 1970s he realised he could now afford to buy an older model of one of these cars to restore.
"I thought why don't I do one of these up myself."
Now living in Tea Gardens, his collection has expanded to include a Rover 90, Rover 100, Rover 75, 1951 Riley RMA and a 1969 MG MK2.
"I have built them from the ground up."
This Saturday, Mr Bartram along with hundreds of other car-lovers will have their labours of love on show at Myall Park, Hawks Nest at the 12th annual Motorfest.
From 8.30am on more than 300 cars and motorcycles from throughout the country are expected to start lining up.
"We always get a good roll up and you can pick up tips from other car owners," Mr Bartram said.
A special feature this year will be Sydney Sports Ground speedway cars and dirt track bikes.
There will be tea, coffee, homemade cakes and biscuits, a sausage sizzle and cold drinks for sale.
Entertainment will be provided by well-known local band Driftwood and the Australian Army Pipes and Drums Band.
The winners of the major raffle prizes will be announced at 1pm while winners of the various vehicle judging awards will be announced and presented at 2pm.
