Tea Gardens resident Michael Christie, whose 18-year-old son Daniel died in January, 11 days after he was allegedly assaulted in Kings Cross on New Years Eve, approached the NSW Police Force about having a seminar focused on drug and alcohol violence.
‘‘[Mr] Christie lives locally here at Tea Gardens and approached me in relation to holding a seminar [about] alcohol and drug-fuelled violence in the community in the hope of preventing another such attack and to save any family from experiencing the horrors his family has been forced to endure,’’ Tea Gardens senior constable Dave Coyle said.
Other speakers will include former Newcastle Knights player Marc Glanville, representing the Australian Drug Foundation, police, health experts and Donate for Life.
The seminar will be held from 6pm on September 11 at Tea Gardens Baptist Church.
It will run for about an hour-and-a-half with a question and answer component at the end.
Topics will include Australia’s binge drinking culture, irresponsible service of alcohol, awareness about one punch legislation changes, domestic violence, the impact of alcohol and violence and the cost such issues have on the community.
For more information about the seminar phone the Tea Gardens Police Station on 4997 0244.
