The roadworks being carried out along Marine Drive between Ogden and Maxwell streets are designed to link up with work done in 2011, the council’s director of engineering, Ron Hartley, said.
‘‘The works are being undertaken under the council’s urban road construction program as part of the ongoing commitment to upgrade Marine Drive along the Tea Gardens waterfront,’’ Mr Hartley said.
‘‘The council has allocated in excess of $1.6 million to Marine Drive.’’
In the coming weeks, new kerbing and guttering and better drainage would be installed along the 200-metre stretch of road.
New road pavement will also be laid.
Additionally, a raised intersection, similar to what is already installed at the Ogden Street and Marine Drive junction, would be built at Maxwell Street.
Mr Hartley said work would be staged so as to not create a significant impact on businesses operating along that stretch of Marine Drive.
Further roadworks are planned for the east of Maxwell Street in 2015.
