For the first time this year the Port Hunter Touch Association, also known as the Marauders, are affiliated with NSW Touch Football, which will mean the association is able to field a representative side in the state tournament.
"Touch [football] in Medowie has grown expeditiously over the last few years. Back in 2011, 14 teams played," the club's Dan Szarkun said.
"This year the expectation is that 32 sides will be playing at Boyd Oval over the two nights."
The club's Amanda Hollis, who last year played for Australia in the Super Trans Tasman Series, encouraged children, men and women to sign up with the Medowie association.
"It's a bit of fun over summer," Hollis said.
Hollis began playing touch football with the RAAF when she was posted at the Williamtown base.
She has played representative touch football for NSW as well as for Australia.
Now as a RAAF reservist, Hollis plays in Sydney's premier league and Medowie's A-grade and social competition.
The competition for mixed touch football will start on September 23 while opens will begin on September 25.
It is hoped an open mixed and an open men's side will be entered into the state cup at Port Macquarie.
Representative squad trials are expected to be held in October.
The Port Hunter Touch Association is looking for sponsors for the representative squad.
