Households, schools and community groups across the local government area are being encouraged by the Great Lakes Council to register for the fourth annual Garage Sale Trail.
The trail – to be held on Saturday, October 25 – encourages individuals and groups to hold a garage sale on the same day to promote reuse, reduce waste to landfill, enable new neighbourly connections, provide a platform for fund-raising, inspire creativity and stimulate economies.
‘‘The campaign offers our community the opportunity to think creatively about how we can reuse items that might otherwise be put out for council collection and possibly end up in landfill,’’ Great Lakes Council mayor Jan McWilliams said.
‘‘I encourage you to think about those in your community who might benefit from your unwanted items, and likewise what treasures might be out there waiting to be found.’’
Cr McWilliams said the council saw an opportunity to deliver a fun, creative and community-driven event to the LGA by supporting the Garage Sale Trail.
The benefits of getting involved included residents and organisations repurposing unwanted goods, promoting sustainability and connecting with the community.
This year, it is expected 10,000 garage sales will be held across the nation. Householders, organisations, schools, community groups and charities can register for free via garagesaletrail.com.au.
Registration includes a seller webpage.
