Called "What Plant is That?" the workshop is on at the Glen Oak School of Arts Hall on Clarence Town Road starting at 9am and running until midday.
At the October 25 workshop experts from Port Stephens Council and Hunter Local Land Services will help residents identify weeds from native plants.
"It is easy to look up weeds on the internet," president of the Glen Oak School of Arts Hall Jo Briggs said.
"But often you pick out things from the garden and think they are pretty plants when really they are noxious weeds."
To book a place in the free workshop phone Charlene Wellard on 4980 0279 or email charlene.wellard@ portstephens.nsw.gov.au.
Participants need to have enclosed shoes, gardening gloves, a sunhat, sunscreen and mozzie repellent. A light lunch is provided.
