The friendly competition's aim is to have swimmers think about the team rather than individual results, Nelson Bay club coach Tom Davis said.
"At the end of the day it is about which club gets the most points," Davis said.
"All kids will only race three races for their club.
"Which race someone swims will be determined on how many points they can get for the club."
About 40 children will swim in the meet for Nelson Bay and 30 from Macquarie Shores, which is based in Toronto near Newcastle.
Davis said the club is similar to Nelson Bay in that they do not have many senior swimmers, but many in the under-12 age bracket.
Saturday's meet is also to prepare the Nelson Bay swimmers heading to the Coast and Valley Championships to be held in Woy Woy in November.
About 30 Nelson Bay swimmers will attend the championship event with Davis believing the club would "clean up", especially in the boys' under-12 events.
Davis said that was based on the age group's performance at the September State Championships where Nelson Bay ended up eight on the ladder from more than 100 clubs.
The club has also started its Friday night club meets, which is open to any person of any age or ability to head along and race.
Davis said more children aged six and seven were needed in the club and encouraged parents to take them along to a Friday meet, starting at 5.30pm.
The cost for the year is $130 which includes various registrations, membership fees, insurance and a club uniform.
