National Broadband Network (NBN) Co last week said it would begin talks with Port Stephens Council about installing fixed wireless services.
"This marks the beginning of the consultation process with the community," NBN Co spokesman Tony Gibbs said.
"At this point, the number of fixed wireless facilities and their locations are yet to be finalised."
NBN equipment would be installed, allowing the council to use the wireless service.
Fixed wireless is designed to aid less densely populated communities across Australia.
It is meant to achieve download speeds of up to 25 megabits per second and upload speeds of up to five megabits per second.
Last week Paterson MP Bob Baldwin announced Dungog, Woodville South and Woodville would also be receiving broadband by fixed wireless services, allowing them access to the NBN.
