Following the approval of Port Stephens Council's plan to rebrand the site as TreEscape Park, the TRRA wants to open the books on Samurai Resort, including the total investment and financial losses since the business was purchased in 2001.
"TRRA believes that decision makers and the ratepayers should be provided with a full disclosure of the background information," a statement released by the TRRA said.
"We also believe that the business plan [for TreEscape Park] should be made available for ratepayer scrutiny."
The TRRA does not support the new plan for low-cost camping, believing the business will have the same financial issues due to its proximity to the beach, restaurants and shops.
"Our concern is that the switch to affordable and low-cost camping reduces the potential to charge sufficient fees to justify any further capital investment," it read.
"These market segments are also more limited to school holiday and long weekends and are likely to be affected by the seasonal conditions of winter."
The group wants a different business model for the resort, suggesting permanent retirement residential sites and long-term caravan sites may be the answer.
