AS A former long-term resident and now frequent visitor to Raymond Terrace, I was shocked and disappointed to learn that Port Stephens Council is planning to rezone and sell off a good slice of Boomerang Park for residential development.

I have many fond memories of exploring and playing in that area with an abundance of wildlife to be seen.
I have watched Raymond Terrace grow and spread over the years - surely with a much greater population there would be more need for parkland to be left for residents to enjoy?
So much could be done to attract families to spend time together in such lovely surrounds.
A children's playground, picnic area with barbecues, a walking and bicycle track are just some ideas that come to mind.
Of course, a new amenities block would complement that.
It is ideal for the seniors' hall and I believe a men's shed is being considered.
These are appropriate as the park belongs to the community.
I hope residents get behind the push to prevent this development from happening as once it is done there can be no going back and, of course, that will only be the start.
Who knows where it will finish.
This is prime real estate but it must remain as parkland.
