Almost 200 residents within the Taree council’s boundaries went online and pledged to drive safer.
The council also saw a decrease in the number of people speeding along Manning River Drive at Glenthorne during March.
‘‘Of course we’re disappointed we didn’t win but we’re extremely happy with the number of people who got behind the campaign, and especially those that took the road safety pledge,’’ Great Lakes Council road safety officer Becky Hunter said.
‘‘The results showed that throughout March the number of speeding motorists on Macintosh Street [Forster] steadily declined, which is a great outcome for road safety in our community.’’
The two councils hope the campaign will remain on residents’ minds.
