A PORT Stephens man, 43, was taken to John Hunter Hospital on Monday afternoon after attempting to harm himself.

Police, ambulance and fire crews were called to a Port Stephens caravan park about 12.20pm on May 25 on reports a man attempted self harm with a knife, a NSW Ambulance spokeswoman said.
The man was treated to on scene and taken to the Newcastle hospital shortly after 1pm.
Port Stephens police Inspector Guy Flaherty said the incident was mental health related and charges were not expected to be laid.
