WHILE The Hub, between Terrace Central and the William Street shops, was already in use, on May 26 Port Stephens mayor Bruce MacKenzie was expected to hold a small ceremony at the site to mark the project's completion.
Cr MacKenzie said it was satisfying to see The Hub was already fulfilling its purpose in providing a safe and accessible spot for residents to catch public transport in the few short weeks it had been opened.
"It's very satisfying that this project is already achieving what it was intended for, and that is to provide a safe and accessible place for all people to be able to come into Raymond Terrace to do their shopping, pay their bills, or go to the bank or the post office," he said.
The Hub was built in partnership with transport providers, businesses and Port Stephens Council using a $100,000 grant under the federal government's Safer Suburbs Program.
Three new taxi parking spaces, a community bus stop and six new accessible car parks were constructed, creating The Hub.
