Paterson MP Bob Baldwin said around 350 people were expected to attend the citizens awards ceremony at Raymond Terrace Bowling Club.
"The prime minister will be announcing winners in all seven categories, which include Citizen, Young Citizen and Senior Citizen of the Year; Corporate Citizen of the Year; Community Organisation of the Year; Sports Achiever and Young Sports Achiever of the Year," Mr Baldwin said.
"We had a fantastic response to the awards this year, with 38 finalists from a huge list of nominations."
Earlier in the day, Mr Abbott was expected to tour the RAAF Base, which is undergoing almost $1 billion in infrastructure redevelopment.
The federal government is upgrading the base in preparation for the introduction of the F-35A aircraft, assuring Williamtown retains its position as Australia's premier fighter training base.
The first aircraft are due to arrive in late 2018.
