Fingal Bay and Shoal Bay have one road in and one road out.
In the last six years Fingal Bay has experienced two bushfires, both in winter and spring - not summer.
In any other season of the year the smoke inhalation suffered by the more elderly residents of Fingal Bay could have been catastrophic causing many fatalities. These fires created a traffic jam as far back as Wests Nelson Bay Diggers, making it impossible for family to reach Fingal Bay to evacuate their loved ones.
It is about time that both Port Stephens Council and the Worimi Land Council stood by their "duty of care" and got it together and relieved the peak periods of congestion in Shoal Bay and Fingal Bay by providing a second access road to Fingal Bay as gazetted many years ago.
Traffic lights would only provide more impassable congestion between Shoal Bay, Fingal Bay and Nelson Bay.
