The 63-year-old who moved to the Bay from Newcastle around 50 years ago has competed in dozens of triathlon and ironman events since his first triathlon in 1985.
Campbell went on to become a founding member of the Tomaree Triathlon Club [in September of 1991] and has since held just about every committee position including president and vice-president.
He is also one of the club's four life members.
"We get together for competition from September to April on the second Sunday of each month. However, for our season opener next month we will be meeting on the third Sunday, the 20th," Campbell said.
"Our members range in age from eight to 80 and there's no pressure on how far people want to swim, ride or run."
The tri club stages two levels of competition - a 250m swim followed by 10km bike ride and 3km run and for the more advanced a 500m swim followed by 20km ride and 6km run.
Campbell, who has also served 34 years as a member of both Fingal Bay and Birubi surf clubs and 22 years with the Soldiers Point rural fire brigade, said that aside from the health and fitness aspects, there was a strong culture of camaraderie and support at the triathlon club.
