The 18-year-old from Corlette who has progressed through the Nelson Bay junior ranks has been chosen as part of the NSW invitational girls hockey squad which will tour collegiate, junior premier league and national teams in September/October.
Bruton's selection came after she had consistently produced a high standard of skill level across a series of state tournaments.
"This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and a great experience for me to test my ability against other girls and receive some professional coaching," said Bruton, who is also a gym coach and youth leader.
"I have loved the sport since a very early age and have nothing but praise for the members and officials at the Nelson Bay club who do a magnificent job catering for the hockey community."
Tour co-ordinator Kim Cox described Bruton - a squad member of the Hunter Sports Academy of Excellence hockey program - as a highly motivated athlete who is well regarded by her peers and community.
"Kathryn has a high respect for citizenship with plenty of talent."
The squad of 16 will play nine highly competitive games over 10 days on NZ's North Island.
