About 12.30am on Sunday, September 6, police and officers from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) were called to the golf club on Dowling Street following reports of a fire.
At the scene they found smoke and flames coming from the roof on the western side of the building.
A number of FRNSW and Rural Fire Service crews from surrounding areas were also called to assist.
No-one was injured during the fire but the building sustained extensive damage.
Investigations into the cause of the fire will be made once the scene has been declared safe by FRNSW.
The golf club is expected to be closed for at least 24 hours.
Bluewater Grill, the restaurant inside the golf club, advised on Facebook on Sunday morning that it would be closed "indefinitely" due to the fire.
"Please be advised that the restaurant and club is close indefinately [sic] ....... There has been a fire and it has been totally destroyed," the Facebook post read.
Police are urging anyone with information to call Raymond Terrace Police Station on 4983 7599, Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page.
