President Jamie Brewster, a youth worker who recently took out a regional youth services award, has extended an invitation to youth and adults alike to join the TYCA team for some fun and friendship.

Joining Mr Brewster on the new-look committee are vice-president Brad Russell, secretary Kelly Earnshaw and treasurer Diana Lyall.

"I have been running the snack'n'rap days at Tilligerry skate park for some time now and we believe with a new committee it's time we relaunched them across the entire Port," Mr Brewster said.

"The snack'n'rap concept is a tried and tested format which has worked previously in bringing the youth together to have a skate and a chat.

"But it doesn't just stop with the youth, we want parents and adults interested in supporting our youth to come along as well."

The first event will take place at Raymond Terrace skate park on Friday, October 30, from 3.30pm-6.30pm.

It will be followed by a special day in November to launch the reopening of the Nelson Bay skate park, which is currently undergoing a $100,000 Port Stephens Council upgrade.

Further days will be held at Tilligerry skate park in December and Anna Bay in January.

Port Stephens councillor Sally Dover, who has been pushing for more youth resources in the Bay for over a decade, said it was important to form community partnerships to ensure the youth were well supported.

"The snack'n'rap days are very hands-on and provide the youth with an opportunity to have some fun with their friends while enjoying a sausage sandwich and a talk about issues that affect them," Cr Dover said.

"I can't find a better place for this to happen then at a skate park."
