In August the Examiner featured the story of the Chessum family who had settled in Salamander Bay to receive better medical care for their daughter, Madison, who suffers from the rare condition, West syndrome.
Madison has severe developmental delays. She cannot talk, walk, eat or drink (her nutrition is fed through a mic-key button) and the family set up a gofundme page in the hope of raising enough money to purchase a new van after Madison had outgrown their existing vehicle.
After hearing of the family's plight, Hungry Jack's came to the family's aid and last week delivered the Chessums a brand new van valued at $27,000, purchased from the Brian Hilton Motor Group in Wyong.
Mum Tanya Chessum said the gift has been life-changing.
"It means now that Madison can join the rest of the family on outings, to school and shopping," Mrs Chessum said.
"It means that we don't have to worry about Madison banging her head every time she is lifted in or out of the vehicle.
"We are so grateful for the donation by Hungry Jack's, we owe them a huge debt."
Mrs Chessum said the family donated their old van to an equally desperate family with a young wheelchair-bound boy from Rutherford.
