THURSDAY pm:
TWO women, a mother and her teenage daughter, were assaulted during a home invasion in Raymond Terrace early on Thursday morning.
Police are still hunting for the man accused of breaking into a Shearman Avenue home shortly after 5am on January 28 and attacking a 38-year-old woman.
Police said the woman woke to find a man standing in her room. He then attacked her with a glass bottle.
The woman’s 17-year-old daughter heard her screams and entered the room to help.
The man pushed the girl over, and she ran from the room. He followed her into another room and assaulted her with a piece of furniture.
The 17 year old escaped, collected her two-year-old brother and ran from the residence. Police said that the man again followed and assaulted her, causing wounds to her head and face.
A neighbour came to the aid of the girl and the man fled the scene.
Both mother and daughter were taken to John Hunter Hospital.
The girl was treated for multiple lacerations to her face and scalp.
The two-year-old boy and an 11-year-old boy who were in the house at the time were uninjured.
Port Stephens police attended and established a crime scene.
The man is described as having a Caucasian appearance, aged in his mid to late 30s, with a medium build and brown hair.
He may have left the scene in a black Ford XR8 ute.
Police are investigating the motive for the attack. Investigations suggest it was not random.
