Newcastle Trades Hall Council secretary Daniel Wallace said a small delegation of union representatives met with Mr Baldwin to discuss the loss of jobs on the CSL Melbourne.
Mr Wallace said the Maritime Union of Australia believed the Coalition government was helping companies find ways around laws that were designed to help support the coastal shipping industry.
