Delivery was expected over Easter but Marine Rescue has assured its generous supporters that construction is well underway on the Steber at Taree.
“Work on the replacement vessel is well advanced,” unit commander Colin Cahill said.
“That Easter prediction was made some time ago and we’re not too far off that mark.”
The 32 foot Steber will be marginally smaller than the boat it replaces but will be fully equipped to handle arduous missions.
The launch is expected to happen on a yet to be confirmed May date, in Taree.
Mr Cahill said the build had progressed largely as expected but with a few tweaks along the way to make it the most user-friendly vessel possible.
“The vessel will find its way to Port Stephens after a short period of sea trials and equipment testing,” he said.
The 32 foot Steber is worth about $1 million.
