RESIDENTS concerned with the sale of Department of Education land, located within the Mambo Wetlands, will rally together in Salamander Bay on Saturday morning.
The 10am rally will be held near real estate agency Frank Knight’s ‘for sale’ sign promoting the sale of the land, which is for seven lots along Port Stephens Drive.
Port Stephens MP Kate Washington said it is necessary that the community makes noise about the sale of the land now, before moves were made to develop it.
“We need to protect this land from development because it is critical koala habitat,” she said.
“I’ve been told that 220 rescues and releases have been made on that parcel of land since 2000. It is known and understood koala habitat and the development of that land would see the population in this area become extinct.
“As a community we need to really voice our concerns, protect this land and say it is not up for development.”
The rally has been promoted in the newly created Facebook page Mambo Wetlands - Community Group.
