Sick and tired of trying to find a man through the online dating scene, that is exactly what Newcastle nurse Elisabeth Scornavacchi did.
Did it work?
To find out, you are going to have to tune in to Channel Seven’s new reality TV show Kiss Bang Love, which began airing this week.
Kiss Bang Love comprises six episodes and in each episode a ‘Single’ searches for love by kissing 12 strangers while blindfolded to see if they have a connection.
It may seem an extreme way to meet your soulmate, but after some frustrating dating experiences Ms Scornavacchi took a leap of faith and applied to be on the show.
“I was basically about to start a shift at work and thought I would have a quick channel surf on the TV and I saw an ad for the show asking, ‘Are you single?’, ‘Do you want to find love’,” Ms Scornavacchi said.
“I have always loved those type of shows and thought, ‘What have I got to lose?’. I also thought what are my chances of actually getting on.
“So I applied and from there I was contacted by one of the producers.”
Born and raised in Sydney, Ms Scornavacchi’s family moved to Port Stephens eight years ago, and for the past two years she has been living in Newcastle.
Ms Scornavacchi does a lot of shiftwork as a nurse which means she does not go out much and as a result has “found it really hard to find a man”. She said the show allowed her to meet single men from all around Australia.
“I’m not going to go out and party and go to clubs because I am really career-focused and as a nurse I work all different shifts, so I resorted to online sites to meet people,” she said.
“But it was really hard to find someone to take home to my family and to introduce to my father, who is very traditional.
“I am very picky, I’m very selective and I don’t want to just settle for anyone. I want to find my soulmate.”
Ms Scornavacchi admitted to nerves before shooting her episode but embraced the idea that “it’s all about the chemical connection”.
“There were a lot of nerves because I was thinking, ‘Will I find someone from this?’,” she said.
“It was definitely daunting because I didn’t know who I was going to be kissing. I didn’t know what they looked like or who they were.
“There were some where I definitely had a connection; I did feel it and then I was curious as to what they looked like.”
Ms Scornavacchi would not reveal the outcome of her experience, only to say she had no regrets and it had been life changing.
“I really opened myself up to this opportunity and to what I could feel,” she said.
“And, let me just say, I’m happy with the outcome and the experience, and that could mean that I found someone or that I didn’t.
“I am overall just happy with where I am in life at the moment and I’m happy I’ve experienced this experiment. I don’t regret it at all.
“It made me go beyond just looks and it has made me more open and has got rid of my fears of approaching people and of meeting new people.
“I would tell other people that you can open yourself up, that is what this experience has shown me.”
Ms Scornavacchi’s episode airs on Channel Seven on June 28.
