Nelson Bay Touch Association have three players selected in the NSW touch teams to play a State of Origin series over three games against Queensland in Sydney on September 3-4. The elusive Bobbie Law will play in the ladies 20-side. Nicole Mitchell’s experience in the 40-team will be vital, while in the men’s 50-team, playmaker Darren Burcher will add spark. It will be a big effort for the Bay representatives who have to travel to Sydney for training on weekends.

In Nelson Bay Rugby League, the Marlins under-16 team travelled to play Raymond Terrace at Lakeside and in a tight contest the Bay had a 16-4 win. Lock Billy Rae, backrower Dane Carney and Ki McClennard up front had strong games.
Fingal Bay Rugby League Club cemented their place the top three with a solid team effort avenging their first round defeat by Dudley. The Bomboras were in control from the opening whistle with a handy half time lead of 12-4, and ran out convincing 28-4 victory with a four-try blitz in the second half. Clever hooker Liam Dooley was strong in his rookie season, Player’s Player Denam Glasson was outstanding at the back shutting down several dangerous Dudley attacking raids, while backrower Blake Fuller had a busy game scoring two tries.
Nelson Bay Soccer Club’s mid season revival continued with strong performances against Beresfield. First grade lost 3-1 with midfielder Daniel Brennan scoring the goal and Jarrod Cave picked up the Player’s Player award. Reserve grade won 1-0 thanks to a rocket from classy mid-fielder Jason Chilby. Shaun Shelly was a worthy Player’s Player.
