The “human whale” event has grown in popularity since the first formation in 2011.
The event coincides with the beginning of the winter school holidays and the end of Naturefest, a program of events showcasing the area’s unique natural beauty.
Last year the human whale event saw 1000 people turn out to form an outline of a 100 metre-long humpback whale.
People of all ages are invited to join together in creating the whale outline.
Registrations open on Sunday, July 3 at 10am.
The registration desk will be located at the grassed area off Intrepid Close, Shoal Bay.
Participants are to be in place on the western end of Shoal Bay Beach by 11.45am at the latest.
A helicopter will fly overhead at noon sharp to capture the best view of the formation.
All participants will receive a certificate of appreciation and wristband entitling them to 25 per cent discount on merchandise at the Port Stephens Visitor Information Centre in Nelson Bay.
