The holiday park is now taking bookings for stays in its eight new safari tents which Rebecca Smith, the business development manager for the Port’s beach side holiday parks, said offered a “comfortable camping experience”.
“We have seen a growing demand for affordable and unique accommodation options throughout our holiday parks in Port Stephens,” Ms Smith said.
“The strong inquiries and future bookings for these new safari tents is a positive indication that they will be a successful upgrade for our accommodation offering.”
Stays in safari tents have been on offer in Shoal Bay for 15 years.
The eight new tents are upgrades to what has been on offer in the past.
Thou Walla Sunset Retreat is the other Port Stephens holiday park to offer visitors a “glamping” (a term for glamorous camping) experience.
In April 2015, 10 safari tents were unveiled at the Soldiers Point holiday park.
But less than 24 hours after the official opening of the newly renovated retreat, the site was devastated by the April super storm.
After months of being out of action, the tents were rebuilt and opened early in 2016.
The Soldiers Point safari tents featured on popular travel television show Sydney Weekender in July.
Shoal Bay Holiday Park’s tents are located within a “safari tent precinct” on the site.
The precinct also features large undercover decks, grassed play and relaxation areas and a shared barbecue dining area.
One of the tents is access friendly for guests with mobility issues.
Each of the eight tents can sleep up to six people and include an ensuite bathroom.
