In its fourth edition, the event starts at 5pm on Saturday at Gregson Park, Hamilton, with a noodle night market and Asian-influenced foodtrucks, tunes from keytar guru Dyan Tai and the family movie The Monkey King: The Hero Is Back.
Supported by Newcastle City Council, the University of Newcastle’s Confucius Institute and the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, the week-long event will also include a Chinese film festival at Tower Cinemas, a business forum at NEX, and a pop-up Chinatown street festival in Beaumont Street.
University director of strategic institution relations (Greater China) Rhys Palmer said the week celebrated the region’s growing economic, cultural and social ties with China, with the workshops and language classes popular with punters.
