Bree Chester, Madalyn Marquet, Skye Waterman and Ellie Russell have been invited to attend a rugby league camp after their performances and good attitudes were noticed by NSW Junior Rugby League scouts during the July Nations of Origin event.
“The scouts asked for our names from the coach on the day,” Roberts said. “Our coach [Tracy Jones] got a letter out of the blue saying we were invited to a camp. It’s going to be a new experience. And we’ll have more ideas about career options from it.”
Waterman said she did not believe her teachers when she was first told they had been invited to the camp.
During the camp the teenagers will complete study units at Macquarie TAFE, learn rugby league skills plus undergo physical testing and career profiling.
Codie Barber, a Norta Norta tutor at the school and who was involved with Nations of Origin coaching, said she was proud of the girls.
“We were pretty stoked when we heard they had been selected,” she said. “Some of the girls haven’t been playing very long. This shows what great talent, attitude and sportsmanship they have. We are very proud of them.”
