Schools in the Tilligerry and surrounds have again been encouraged to submit art works for the event but organisers have taken it one step further.
Pet Portraits by Florence will sponsor the under 18s category that encourages budding artists regardless of their school to submit pieces with cats, dogs, birds or any other pet as the subject.
“The standard of work from our students is always high,” Tilligerry Art Group treasurer Sandy Mulligan said.
“This new category adds a new element to our successful exhibition.”
The Lions Club of Tilligerry Peninsula started the exhibition 20 years ago – which has grown year on year – and continues to help with the administration.
While it included just 30 pieces in the first year it regularly attracts 250-plus entries in the various categories. Interstate artists often mix it with a strong field of Port Stephens based artists.
It even includes sculptures unlike most art prizes.
The prize pool stands at $6500.
Again held at the Lemon Tree Passage Bowling Club auditorium it will also include 14 tables of crafts for sale from an eclectic group of artisans.
The official opening and awards night is on Thursday, November 17 from 6.30pm.
The exhibition is open to the public 10am to 10pm, Friday and Saturday and 10am until 3pm the the Sunday.
The exhibition runs in conjunction with the Tilligerry Festival 2016.
