‘Coffee with a Cop’ is an initiative aimed at strengthening the relationship between Port Stephens Local Area Command and the community.
“We hope that community members will feel comfortable to ask questions and raise any concerns they have,” said Sergeant Michael Magann, Crime Coordinator with Port Stephens Local Area Command.
This is the first time ‘Coffee with a Cop’ is being held by Port Stephens LAC.
The initiative started five years ago in the Sydney suburb of Fairfield, after the station’s Commander, Superintendent Peter Lennon, attended a conference in the United States and heard about a similar program being run there.
This year, the initiative is being embraced by the wider NSW police force.
“It is a great opportunity to break down the barriers between the police and the community, and for people to get know our officers,” Sgt Magann said.
General duties officers, detectives, senior management, and Highway Patrol will be at the ‘Coffee with a Cop’ event.
The initiative will be held at MarketPlace in Raymond Terrace on Thursday, February 23 from 10am, at the centre-court area outside Big W.
Wendy’s, Donut King and Fibonacci Coffee will be taking part in the event, and people will be given a free coffee card after their chat with police.
