A big red, walking shield accompanied by members of the Salvation Army will be in Raymond Terrace MarketPlace from 6pm on May 4 talking with people about the annual appeal, encouraging others to hold a red day and signing volunteers up for the doorknock weekend.
“We do not have the number of people associated with our church that can cover the area needed for door knocking, as well as all the static stands,” Envoy Ron Petterson, the associate director of the Red Shield Appeal in Raymond Terrace, said.
“This means that we rely upon the community to voluntarily help us with collecting for this appeal.”
The doorknock appeal will be held on May 27 and 28.
The Salvation Army is in need of volunteers to knock on doors and collect donations in Raymond Terrace, Karuah, Seaham, Bulladellah and Tea Gardens.
Money collected from the area stays in the area, Envoy Petterson said.
This money is directed towards Red Shield Appeal funded programs, which go to supporting the community.
In Raymond Terrace, money collected through the doorknock appeal and other fund-raising activities in May is directed towards programs such as the Monday parent’s support group, free community lunch on a Tuesday, Thursday afternoon ‘Kidz in the Park’, weekly craft and music youth group.
In addition to the doorknock appeal, this year there will be static stands around town including in MarketPlace and Raymond Terrace McDonald’s. The stands will be manned by volunteers and members of the Salvation Army with collection tins.
The Salvation Army is also asking organisations, groups and workplaces to consider holding a red day. This is where group members or employees dress in red and make a donation to the Salvation Army.
For more information, to register your interest in holding a red day or volunteer for the doorknock, phone Envoy Petterson on 0402 848 987.
Individuals and groups can volunteer for the doorknock.
