It’s part of a litter reduction strategy including improved signage, enforcement and community education.
The project is collaboration between Hunter Councils, Port Stephens Council, Take-3, the NSW Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) and Medowie Public school.
“Our members are really excited by the innovative approach being shown to anti-littering through the participation of local schools,” Hunter Councils waste program manager Michael Neville said.
The event will be combined with a schools clean-up attended by Medowie Primary School pupils and teachers as well as Take-3 volunteers. An audit of the litter will be used to determine the sources.
